In my role as a private college admissions counselor, I became increasingly aware of the growing disparity between those who could afford my one-on-one services and those who couldn't. Driven by a passion to help deliver quality college counseling to the masses, I set out with my co-founder, Laura, to disrupt the industry which caters primarily to the elite. With so many experienced admissions professionals, including former admissions officers and high school counselors, who can help students nationwide, we had to find a way to build an Uber-like platform to unlock this enormous potential. After raising the money, moving development efforts to Austin, and surveying students, high school counselors, parents, admissions officers, and private counselors, we are excited to launch our platform this year!

Over the years, I have been part of two successful startups (environmental and software) and learned, first hand, the power of technology to leverage individuals to do great things. As a corporate lawyer for one of the largest firms in the world and as a solo-practitioner, I have been trained to read carefully and thoroughly. This has been invaluable in helping students find their narrative and communicate it effectively.

I have been a college counseling professional for over a decade. My love of working with prospective students began when I was an Admissions Ambassador during my undergraduate years at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. This inspired me to pursue a career in admissions upon graduation. After 2 years as an admissions counselor at The University of Texas at Austin, I switched to “the other side of the desk,” and became a college counselor at a private college preparatory high school in Houston, Texas, while simultaneously completing my Master’s degree. Over my career, I have been invited to visit college campuses both nationwide and abroad learning in-depth knowledge about the admissions process. Last summer, I received a grant to travel to Europe to refine my knowledge about the European college admissions process. I have been a presenter at the annual conference for the Texas Association for College Admissions Counseling (TACAC) focusing on how to utilize social media. I acted as an “essay expert” at TACAC’s “Camp College,” a multi-time attendee to the National Association for College Admissions Counseling annual conference and am a two-time participant in the Admissions and College Counseling Institute.  I have received accolades for my encyclopedic college knowledge, and especially for my abilities as an admissions essay coach.

Having attended a large public high school where I only met with my counselor once in 4 years, I was astonished at the college counseling resources students receive at a private high school. This guidance not only calmed anxiety in students, and parents, but it also made a significant difference in the final outcome of the completed application. When I was contacted by Mark, who had an idea about how to bring this type of guidance to the masses, I jumped at the chance of reaching a multitude of students who otherwise wouldn’t have professional college counseling help! ReadMyCollegeApplication uses technology and a curated group of admissions professionals to bring quality application guidance to families all at an affordable price!
